Despatched via a direct Air India flight to Birmingham on July 15, 2026, the history-making cargo consisted entirely of ready-made garments from local manufacturers. The launch demonstrates
a long-awaited shift for regional logistics, proving that exporters from Punjab and northern agricultural belts can now clear, scan and route premium products directly overseas without relying on highly congested transit hubs in metropolitan cities like Delhi or Mumbai. Under the newly implemented FTA, nearly 99% of Indian products now enjoy zero-duty access to the British market, eliminating previous UK import tariffs of 12%-20% on textiles and clothing, according to a report.
