The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has officially amended the export policy under Chapter 12 of Schedule II of the ITC (HS) Export Policy, notifying Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati as an approved export point for agarwood chips, oil and allied products. The regulatory modification follows representations from Assam state leadership to streamline air cargo operations for the region’s high-value
aromatic forestry sector, which accounts for the vast majority of India’s domestic agarwood production. Previously restricted to designated gateways such as Mumbai, Nhava Sheva, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, exporters in Northeast India faced severe transit overheads and delayed logistics. Direct air export capabilities out of Guwahati significantly cuts lead times to primary international markets across the Middle East, as per a report.
