The Central Govt aims to increase the number of airports in the country to 400 in the next 25 years from the present 157, said Mr Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Union Minister for Civil Aviation, after launching Digi Yatra in Visakhapatnam Port City and another eight airports through a video link to Bagdogra, Ranchi, Coimbatore, Dabolim Goa, Indore, Patna, Raipur and Bhubaneswar. He pointed out that the RCS Udaan Scheme, which started in 2016, had paved the way for more airports in the country and facilities for people. The government is expanding the scheme from 2027 to 2037, which will facilitate having more airports and better connectivity. The government is also looking forward to using more and more technology in the civil aviation sector, he added, as per a report.
