Cargo Service Center expands operations in Kerala

Cargo Service Center (CSC), India’s leading air cargo handling company, is has announced a significant expansion of its operations in the dynamic state of Kerala, often referred to as “God’s Own Country.”

On June 1, 2023, CSC commenced its security functions as a BCAS Authorized Regulated Agent (RA), reinforcing its commitment to cargo safety. Building on this momentum, on August 22, 2023, CSC launched international operations at Cochin International Airport (CIAL), marking a momentous chapter in the company’s journey. A year earlier, in 2022, CSC had initiated services at the Cochin Domestic Cargo Terminal, solidifying its presence in the vibrant state of Kerala.

During a recent address, the Managing Director of Cochin International Airport, Mr S. Suhas, said, “CIAL is all set to embark on a new journey in its infrastructural endeavours which also includes the new import cargo terminal. CIAL’s dedicated import cargo terminal is equipped to elevate southern India as a dominant cargo hub. A testimony to CIAL’s visionary diversification strategy, this venture anticipates a substantial surge in Kochi’s cargo transit, fortifying its position as a pivotal global trade hub. I am happy that we have a professional organisation like CSC to partner with us in managing the cargo terminal. I’m sure all stakeholders will benefit from this partnership.  This is the largest cargo terminal in the state, featuring automation and advanced scanners, shall safeguard both efficiency and security ensuring seamless operations. This momentous inauguration augurs a new era, propelling CIAL’s annual cargo capacity to 2 lakh tonnes”.

On this occasion, CSC Group Chairman, Mr Tushar Jani, said, “Cochin International Airport serves as a pivotal hub for international air cargo activities in the southern region of India. CSC’s expansion in Kerala holds immense significance, as it is the second airport in the state, alongside Kannur, where the company efficiently operates and manages the entire cargo terminal, encompassing both domestic and international cargo operations, with an unwavering commitment to enhancing air cargo services nationwide”.

CSC seamlessly operates both Domestic and International Cargo Terminals, providing comprehensive cargo handling and screening services at CIAL. The Domestic Cargo Warehouse spans an impressive 2,300 square metres, while the international cargo handling section boasts an expansive 10,400 square metres. These state-of-the-art facilities cater to a wide range of cargo, including perishable and temperature-sensitive goods, as well as various general and courier export and import shipments.

This expansion reaffirms CSC’s commitment to delivering top-notch air cargo services to International and Domestic Carriers, ensuring the efficient movement of goods across the region. The company looks forward to furthering its contributions to the air cargo industry and strengthening its foothold in the vibrant state of Kerala, emphasised a release.

Key facilities at Cochin International Airport

  1. Centre for Dry Cargo (CDC): An extensive 9,000 sq. m area dedicated to the handling and storage of import and export cargo. It includes separate sections for valuable and vulnerable cargo, dangerous goods, and boasts a hi-tech security system.
  2. Centre for Perishable Cargo: A modern facility with 1,410 sq. m of space, maintained at an ambient temperature of +18°C and relative humidity. The facility includes cool rooms with chambers at different temperature ranges.
  3. Transhipment Cargo Facilities: A dedicated warehouse for transhipment cargo, facilitating the efficient transfer of cargo from catchment areas and other airports to Cochin Airport.
  4. Domestic Cargo: A separate 2,300 sq. m center for handling and storing.
