Perishable cargo centre set to open at Guwahati airport

Airports Authority of India (AAI) and its cargo wing- AAICLAS will soon open its perishable cargo centre at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati which is being built by Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC).

Airports Authority of India had leased 4,050 sq. m of land to AIDC for a period of seven years from 31.05.2017 for establishing the Centre for Perishable Cargo at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati with a capacity to handle 10,000 MT of perishable cargo.

The foundation stone for this perishable cargo centre, being built by AIDC, was laid by Chief Minister of Assam Mr Sarbananda Sonowal last year in January, who had said that the process has been started to sell Assam’s fruits, vegetables etc. to the markets of London, Singapore, Dubai and efforts are on to expand to the markets of Europe, America and South East Asia for transporting perishable agricultural produce of the state to different domestic and international locations.

The Centre will have state-of-art facilities for one-stop facilitation to process the perishable cargo with Customs EDI facility with further forward and backward linkage project under Trade Infrastructure Export Scheme.
