NMIA set to redefine cargo operations

Cargo is the silent engine of global trade, and Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is bringing it to the forefront.

From India’s first fully automated cargo terminal and farm-to-flight perishable corridors to a unique sea-air synergy with JNPA, NMIA is redefining how goods move across Maharashtra and the world.

By placing cargo at the core of its operations, NMIA also underscores India’s ambition to build infrastructure that is globally competitive and forward-looking, it emphasised in a communique.

A new flight path for trade – How NMIA will redefine cargo movement in Maharashtra

* 0.8 mn tonnes cargo in Phase 1

* 40% faster turnaround with automation & Al

* Dedicated freighter stands for seamless operations

* Real-time tracking and paperless Customs

Innovation that redefines freight

* A fully automated cargo terminal equipped with robotic sorting and Al enabled monitoring.

* A dedicated cargo village for perishables, complete with farm-to-flight cold chain corridors, to handle fresh produce from Maharashtra and beyond.

* A Pharma Excellence Centre, with GDP (good distribution practice), compliant temperature-controlled zones tailored to India’s life sciences industry.

* A dedicated drone and express cargo zone, future-proofing the airport for the e-commerce boom and emerging drone-based logistics.

* Blockchain-enabled digital Customs for paperless trade.

When air meets sea

NMIA will also enable synergy with Jawaharlal Nehru Port, India’s busiest shipping gateway located just 20 km from Navi Mumbai.

Inspired by the Dubai (DXB-Jebel Ali) and Amsterdam (Schiphol-Rotterdam) models, it will facilitate sea-air transhipment, thereby saving 2 days on exports, the communique highlighted.
