Carriers face 48-hour embargo on imports at Dubai

Air cargo movement to Dubai will be affected as a local terminal operator, dnata, has imposed a 48-hour embargo on imports due to a cargo backlog. The embargo begins at midnight on Monday February 13 and will run until Wednesday at the same time, according to reports. It will impact Indian and other foreign airlines, while Emirates will not be affected as it operates from a different terminal. dnata, which is part of the Emirates group, provides ground handling, cargo, catering and travel services. The embargo is necessary to clear the existing backlog and restore normal operations, according to Dubai Airport’s Operations Control Centre. Dubai is the largest destination from India for passenger traffic, and Emirates is one of the top five cargo airline operators in India. Air India and other Indian airlines also operate flights to Dubai, with efforts being made to send booked consignments before the embargo takes effect, as per the reports.
