Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai recently announced that it is closely monitoring air cargo operations and implementing targeted mitigation measures following severe congestion triggered by a sharp spike in freight volumes. The surge in import and export processing has led to extended truck turnaround times and elevated cargo dwell times across terminal gates and holding bays. To alleviate operational pressure, airport authorities and terminal operators are coordinating with Customs officials, freight forwarders and ground handling agents to streamline offloading sequences, optimise cargo staging areas, and expand processing slots during off-peak hours to preserve air freight supply chain continuity through Western India’s primary aviation gateway, according to a report.
