INDIA’S civil aviation safety regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), is preparing to launch a next-generation version of its digital governance ecosystem, eGCA 2.0. The ambitious upgrade moves the regulator beyond basic digitisation to advanced automated oversight by integrating artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain and predictive surveillance tools. To manage this extensive tech overhaul, the DGCA is appointing a specialised Technology Project Management Unit to oversee application design, cloud architecture and strict data protection compliance. The proposed platform will utilise decision intelligence and predictive tools to automatically analyse vast operational streams, allowing authorities to proactively spot maintenance anomalies and safety risks before they escalate. Furthermore, blockchain technology will establish tamper-resistant records for pilot training logs, flight hours and licensing, effectively wiping out fraud risks while creating a highly transparent, responsive and future-ready regulatory environment for India’s rapidly booming aviation market, according to a report.
