CIAL achieves 10 pc cargo growth despite West Asia crisis

Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) recorded a resilient performance during the financial year 2025-26, handling 72,178 tonnes of cargo despite geopolitical tensions in West Asia. This represents a 10% increase, with international cargo accounting for 76% of the total volume. Revenue from this segment climbed to ₹52.84 crore, driven by perishables, pharmaceuticals and e-commerce. To bolster efficiency, Mr S. Suhas, Managing Director, oversaw the launch of a Dedicated Trucking Centre and the expansion of the Export Cargo Warehouse, increasing annual capacity to 125,000 tonnes. The facility now features advanced screening and cold chain infrastructure. Notably, CIAL demonstrated agility by managing 11 non-scheduled freighter operations with carriers including Etihad and Emirates during recent disruptions. Mr Suhas stated that CIAL is evolving into a future-ready logistics gateway for South India through digital management and multimodal integration, according to a report.
