The new cargo terminal of Pune airport will be ready for operations by the middle of next month. The current domestic cargo capacity of the airport is 25,000 metric tonnes (MT) daily, which the new terminal will help increase to 36,000 MT, as per reports.
Final touches are being given to the new terminal built on 1.76 acres of land provided to the Airports Authority of India by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in July last year. There will be an inspection-cum-security vetting by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), following which the terminal will become operational. Once the new terminal starts functioning, the existing cargo hold area will close, said the reports.
